Treyarch's newest First person shooter which is a sequel to the Black Ops franchise Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 is out now. So gear up, load up on ammunition and get locked and loaded for this review.

Campaign

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 is set in the futuristic era of 2025, where technology is everything. The main protagonists are Alex Mason and his son David Mason, even though it is set in 2025 there are flashback missions told from our old friend Frank Woods that tells the story from his side.  You play as Alex Mason who uncovers answers from important questions and connects the past to the present. The plot of the story is that an old man named Raul Menendez is seeking vengeance for the murder of his sister Josefina Menendez. He takes over control of all technology and military drones and plans an attack on America and China.  His goal: to make America pay and suffer for the loss of his sister. This campaign would have to be the greatest Call of Duty campaign yet! Not only do you get different choices of what to do, you also get different outcomes and endings. They have also added a feature where you can customize your own load out of weapons. You also can do certain challenges on each mission to unlock more weapons/perks to help you in the campaign.

There are also new side missions called Strike Force which allows you to take control of a number of different soldiers, unmanned aerial vehicles, jet fighters and robots. If you die in a Strike Force mission you have the choice to restart or just continue the campaign recording that as a loss. Strike Force missions can change even the plans of Raul Menendez. By the end of the game, you may have changed the results of the new Cold War, and the player is shown what could have changed as a result.

Zombies

Nazi Zombies is back in action on Call of Duty Black Ops 2 with an all new map called Green Run. After the past events that happened on the Easter egg on Call of Duty Black Ops Zombie map Moon, Earth is now an apocalyptic environment with zombies everywhere and cracks / lava all over the place. You play as 4 different characters Misty, Russman, Marlton and Samuel.  These new characters have nothing to do with the story and are not explained as to how they fit in these events.

Numerous choices are now given in lobbies such as round starting (1, 5, 10, 15 or 20); enabling or disabling Hellhounds ; turning on powers called "Magic as well as head-shots only.  There is certainly some decent level of customization here.  Also easy difficulty has been added into the game.  I was really disappointed the number of Zombie maps as they essentially only added 1 new map but split it up into 3 parts and treated them as separate maps which I find was a poor move.  Other modes such as  TranZit mode contain a new Easter egg which I myself, have not even be able to do yet! I have always loved the Easter eggs added into these latest maps and to date have not been disappointed by them.

Multiplayer

Seeing that this is another game from the Call of Duty franchise not much has changed since the others except for minor things such as score streaks instead of kill streaks, extra weapons, extra maps, new title and more enhanced emblem making. Even though most people have not been happy with how the multiplayer hasn’t changed much at all, in my opinion this is not an easy thing to rebuild for every iteration of the game.  My honest opinion on multiplayer is that it hasn't changed much but it’s still the same solid gameplay style we have come to love.  Our basic game-type modes are still included such as; Team Deathmatch, Free for All, Capture the Flag, Domination, Search and Destroy etc are still there plus a couple of new game types from Modern Warfare 3 such as Kill Confirmed and Hard Point.

Visuals and Sounds

Once again Call of Duty has presented us with great looking sceneries, environments and great taste of music of what you are doing like for example, there is a scene where you’re in a night club and its playing Dubstep/ techno music and it just fitted so well with the environment.

Overall

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 is by far the best Call of Duty that I have experienced to date campaign wise.  With its many options and alternate endings, every decision you make can alter the game and its story arc.  It was a very dramatic and attaching story with some decisions that just made you too upset that you had to pick one or the other, which to me means they have done a successful job in reaching out to their audience.  You feel connected to the characters, and it’s something I have not felt in a long time.  If you’re into the Call of Duty franchise, you’ve already made your purchase, however I implore you to give the single player campaign a solid crack as you’ll most certainly love what Treyarch have done here.  A must buy for any shooter fan.
